Oakham is celebrating another set of excellent GCSE results today, with almost a third of all students, 48 in total, achieving the top grades of A* or A in all of the subjects they studied. These impressive results follow on from last year, with over 30% of all grades again being awarded the top A* mark. Overall, 91% of all exams taken were awarded A*- B grade. This year, seven students have extra special cause for celebration, having achieved a clean sweep of A* grades in 10 or 11 of their GCSE exams. Another 19 students achieved at least 8 A*s. Headmaster Nigel Lashbrook is delighted with the results: “My congratulations go to the students and staff who have worked so very hard to achieve such a great set of results, alongside taking part in everything else that Oakham has to offer. Amongst the 48 Oakhamians who have gained top marks there are students who have been a part of the National Youth Theatre, won national music prizes and been crowned national sporting champions - all part of a genuinely holistic education.” Oakhamians excelled across the wide range of subjects on offer at the School, including Spanish where an impressive 95% of students were awarded A* or A grades. For the second year running over 90% of students taking Music GCSE also achieved these top marks. Additionally, those students who took Classical Studies excelled; 82% achieved top GCSE grades (A*/A) in Latin, 91% in Classical Civilisation, and 100% in Greek. Mr Lashbrook adds that “these results are a fitting end to a summer of academic success for Oakham – which started back in July with IB results that position us as one of the leading IB schools in the world. Indeed, our GCSE students, as well as those who join us in the Sixth Form, can now relax and enjoy the rest of their summer break before embarking on the next step of their academic career – be it A Levels or the IB.”
