Barrow Hills School Children Celebrate Our Longest Reigning Monarch

Published Monday 14th of September 2015 01:23:43 PM

On Thursday 9th September pupils at Barrow Hills School joined in with the nationwide celebrations to mark the occasion of Her Majesty The Queen becoming the longest reigning monarch in British history – at just over 63 years and 6 months. The pupils enjoyed a themed lunch with sausages and mash and home-made pork pie with piccalilli followed by chocolate bread and butter pudding. The School held a special assembly, which focused on the monarchy, before all the children were presented with a commemorative coin to mark this special event in our history. Headmaster, Matthew Unsworth said, “We feel it is important to give the current generation of children something to mark this event and for them to treasure also. I remember my school doing something similar for the Queen's silver jubilee and I still have the commemorative coin.”
