ACS Hillingdon students enjoy theatre production in the outdoors

Sixty ACS Hillingdon students recently experienced an outdoor production of William Golding’s classic novel, Lord of the Flies, at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. All students from grade 9, aged 14 to 15, and drama students, aged 16 to 17, travelled to the scenic London landmark to watch the uniquely staged performance, which included a large tail end of an airplane and pyrotechnic props, before it started a tour around the UK. By attending the performance at one of the largest open air theatres in London, students in grade 9 were able to see how their set curriculum text, Lord of the Flies, was interpreted by the company. Alyssa Ballard, High School English teacher and trip co-ordinator, commented: “The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production was a great opportunity to see a different perspective of Lord of the Flies and for students to take their learning out of the classroom. “It was also exciting to watch such an engaging performance in an organic setting as it brought the story and morals behind it to life.” Students will be reflecting upon their experience of the production back at school in their English classes through responding to professional reviews of the performance.
