Five Hazlegrove children and a member of staff travelled recently to represent Great Britain in Turkey for the European Biathle Championships. They had been selected to be part of the GB team of 34 athletes following the British Championships in August. A biathle is a continuous run-swim-run competition and is run in the UK by by Pentathlon-GB. The week proved to be a fabulous experience for everyone with the children enjoying the opportunity to meet like-minded children from across Europe. The Hazlegrove contingent certainly performed extremely well and they were delighted to come home with an array of medals. Their achievements included: - Anya Evans and Sam Cobb winning gold in the first event of the championships the Mixed Relay event after a very tense and exciting race. - Angus Evans, Josh Cobb and Anya Evans were all part of their age groups gold winning teams. - Harriet Tuson ran a superb race to take the bronze individual medal and helping her GB team to gain the silver medal. - Sam Cobb ran a very determined race to come from behind to clinch victory in his age group and to become crowned European Champion. Staff member Mrs Evans also did very well finishing second in the Masters category. For these children, standing on the podium to collecting medal and to sing the National Anthem was an experience they will carry with them for many years to come. Well done to all the Hazlegrove children and to all the GB Biathletes.
