Silver medals at the National Championships for the Hazlegrove U12 hockey girls

Hazlegrove U12 girls truly gave their all at the National IAPS Championships and were delighted to return home with silver medals. The U11 girls also qualified for their National IAPS Finals and played brilliantly all day winning seven out of their nine matches. To have two teams playing at the Nationals is a tremendous achievement as qualification requires a good deal of hard work and determination from all involved. Even more remarkable is that Hazlegrove have had two out of the three senior teams (U11, U12 and U13) qualifying for eight consecutive years. Both this year’s teams enjoyed some great hockey and aside from playing the game, a highlight for the U11s was meeting some of the England ladies’ hockey team who signed their sticks! The U12 girls won their group and their semi-finals only to find themselves face to face with local rivals Millfield in the finals – a game in which neither team scored. The championships were therefore decided on penalty shuffles which went to sudden death before Millfield scored the winning goal. It has not just been the seniors or the A teams which have enjoyed success either – teams throughout the prep school have been busy on the hockey field. Aside from some great results in the regular team fixtures, notable wins this year have included the U11b team winning the All Hallows tournament and the U13b team winning the Hazlegrove tournament. Well done everyone on a great hockey season.
