Google Expeditions take student adventurers to another world

Published Monday 11th of January 2016 10:26:50 AM

ACS Hillingdon students recently journeyed into virtual reality with a visit from Google Expeditions Pioneer Programme team. The team provided students with virtual reality cardboard viewers, which project a 360-degree, 3D panorama view from a tablet. Alongside Middle School Technology Integrationist Jeremy Williamson, the Expeditions team then gave students a virtual guided tour across the globe, exploring landmarks and landscapes, from the Great Wall of China to the jungles of Borneo. These immersive virtual journeys truly bought lessons to life for the nine to 14-year-olds. Studying the moons and planets for Science, and ancient civilisations for their Social Studies, students were able to virtually visit the surface of the moon then head off to see the Aztec temples and the pyramids of Egypt. Jeremy, who is also a member of the Google Educator Group (UK), commented: “This was an incredible and entirely new experience for our students. They were thrilled to see such amazing sights from around the world without leaving the classroom.”
