ACS Cobham students spellbind audiences with Broadway classic

Talented High School students at ACS Cobham International School recently staged a contemporary adaptation of the classic Broadway musical, Godspell. Performing the musical over two days, the 16 to 18-year-olds left audiences spellbound with their singing, dancing, acting and musical skills. Godspell, the legendary rock musical from Stephen Schwartz, three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, is a timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on hymns and parables. Injecting contemporary references and drawing on popular culture, the talented performers revived the 2012 rearrangement of the original musical, complete with a live six-piece rock band. The 25 strong cast, made up of 13 performers, six singers and the band, tackled challenging harmonies, vocal scores and dynamic musical arrangements, producing an exciting and vibrant show for family, friends and staff at ACS Cobham. Darryl Nel, Head of Drama at ACS Cobham, commented: “Our students’ energy, enthusiasm and hard work on the stage made the production a huge success. Tackling a Broadway hit is always a challenge but our performers rose to the occasion brilliantly – we’re already looking forward to our next musical!”
