Good luck to our choral finalists!

Oakham’s Chamber Choir are incredibly excited to be finalists in the Barnardo's National Choral Competition, which takes place tonight at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall in London. Oakham is one of just seven senior choirs (up to and including 18 years of age) to have been selected from across the country. If this wasn’t impressive enough, the Chamber Choir have also reached the semi-finals of the BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year 2016 competition. “To be selected for both these national competitions is a testimony to the outstanding quality of music at Oakham,” says Director of Music, Peter Davis. “It is a huge accolade to be recognised as one of the seven best senior school choirs in the country in both of these prestigious competitions.” The choir will perform two pieces to the Barnardo’s judges – Roderick Williams’ arrangement of “I want Jesus to walk with me”, and an a cappella arrangement of “When you wish upon a star”. They will then also perform in an evening concert, in which they will perform one of these pieces again as well as two massed choir items with the other five senior choirs and the 18 junior choirs taking part in the competition. “The students are delighted that their hard work, as well as their talents, have been acknowledged on the national stage,” continues Peter. “They are certainly looking forward to singing at the iconic Royal Festival Hall – which is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!” Everyone at Oakham wishes the Choir the very best of luck – follow our Twitter feed @OakhamSch to be kept up-to-date with their progress in the competition.
