Pitch Perfect

Pupils at Malvern St James Girls’ School were inspired by a choral workshop with ‘The Sons of Pitches’, winners of BBC2’s The Naked Choir competition hosted by Gareth Malone. Girls were able to explore their ‘a cappella’ skills during the afternoon and then join the professionals for a number during their evening performance. Friends, families and the audience of over 400 were blown away by the incredible concert in York Hall. Charlotte Davey, Year 13 said “The workshop by The Sons of Pitches was a thrilling experience, offering the opportunity to rehearse with and learn from amazingly talented and passionate professionals. Our choir picked up the ‘a cappella’ skills pretty quickly and it really helped us to understand the process of creating songs. We learnt how to build up a song and make a new arrangement by pulling apart well-known music and truly making it our own. The audience loved our remix of ‘You Raise Me Up’ and were truly impressed by the product, especially in the small amount of time we had. We are definitely going to apply these new skills in our own practices and hopefully use them in future concerts”. The Sons of Pitches have since tweeted 'Had an incredible time at @MalvernStJames yesterday. Lovely girls with great voices - you raised us up!'
