Year 7 'Speak Out' public speaking competition

Published Wednesday 24th of February 2016 02:05:20 PM

After plenty of preparation and the usual round of class heats, the Year 7 Speak Out finalists were selected and the final of the competition was held in front of a panel of three teacher judges and an audience of supportive pupils. The finalists spoke on a range of topics from skiing and extreme sports to trips to foreign parts and took questions most competently from their Year 7 peers. The standard was as high as ever and the judges faced a difficult decision but in the end Sam was crowned the judges Speak Out Winner of 2015 for his entertaining and knowledgeable talk on the Greek gods. Joint runner-up positions were awarded to Amy for her persuasive speech on vegetarianism and also to Aina, who spoke in remarkably fluent English about her love of animals from inside her woolly wolf jumpsuit! In the audience vote, however, it was Billy’s informative speech on huskies that won over his Year 7 listeners (or perhaps it was the cute pictures of husky pups that clinched it!).
