Students join global meeting for Model UN

Published Thursday 3rd of March 2016 10:18:45 AM

ACS Hillingdon International School’s future United Nations leaders travelled to the Netherlands to take part in ‘The Hague Model United Nations’ (THIMUN). Twenty four High School students joined 210 schools from across the globe at the World Forum Centre in The Hague to take part in the six day event. The MUN assigned all teams UN delegate roles, with ACS Hillingdon’s two teams representing Egypt and World Bank. All nations and organisations then used their debating and negotiating skills to discuss topics ranging from human rights to disarmament. Derek Johnson, Head of Mathematics and organiser of the MUN trip at ACS Hillingdon, commented: “All of our students did a fantastic job during the Model United Nations. Everyone showed their ability to debate in public and their understanding of highly important world issues (such as ‘Sustainable Urbanisation’, which was the conference theme for the year ahead). “The week was intense and packed full of meetings and discussions but everyone was able to learn how to work as a team, and how these issues can impact others across the world in very different ways.”
