Merchiston Castle School is pleased to welcome Jacha Potgieter to the School. Jacha was born in South Africa in 1963 and now lives in North Wales with his wife, Gwen. He is passionate about conservation and has a great love of animals. A trip to the Orang-utan Foundation in Borneo had a deep affect on him and inspired the collection of Orang-utan paintings that have sold worldwide.

Jacha, who works full time on his art, has a John Moores BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art which he completed at Wirral Metropolitan College in 2001 and a Nature Conservation Diploma, Cape Town circa 1986. He works from life and from his imagination, producing paintings, prints and 3D work. His work is in private collections in Australia, America, Turkey, France, Bermuda, Germany, Belgium, South Africa, Greece, Canada, Portugal, Norway, Ireland and in the UK.

He has his own gallery space in the Alpine Coffee Shop and Gallery, Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, where his work can be viewed and purchased. Jacha is currently aiming to create a Palm Oil free menu.

Merchiston is thrilled that Jacha will be spending time with pupils this week including taking art classes and speaking at the School assembly. Merchiston parents, Sixth Form pupils and staff will also be able to enjoy a fascinating evening with Jacha as the School hosts An Evening with Artist Jacha Potgieter including dinner and live music.
