Arts Awards at Culford School

Culford School recently held its ninth annual Arts Presentation Dinner which recognises and celebrates the achievements of Upper Fifth (Year 11), Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth pupils in art, music and drama. Hosted and organised by the Lower Sixth, attendees enjoyed a wonderful meal and, after the speeches and awards, danced to a live band. Mrs Brenda Hunt, Head of Art at Culford, commented: “It was a wonderful evening; a time to celebrate the achievements of pupils in the Upper Fifth and Sixth Form involved in the creative and performing arts, and to say thank you to them and their teachers for their commitment and dedication.” Culford’s Art department has had a lot to celebrate recently; the next generation of talented pupil artists hosted their very own Showcase Exhibition open to friends, family and fellow pupils at the beginning of February. Old Culfordian Kate Jackson returned to the school’s Foundation Gallery for the opening of her ‘British Road Movies’ exhibition at the end of February, and displayed her work in an open gallery up until the middle of March. Also, plans are currently underway to redevelop the department’s main studio space into a glass panelled, modern building, mirroring the design and functionality of the school’s new £2.2 million library that opened in September of last year.
