A group of 12 Year 9 pupils took on the Ten Tors challenge in Dartmoor National Park The annual competition requires participants to navigate a route without any adult help, camping overnight and carrying all they need in order to sustain themselves for the two days. The two Millfield teams, led by Diketso Karas and Tiger Kellaway, walked the A and B route which were 35 miles as the crow flies, but more like 42 miles when the tors and manoeuvring around bogs is factored in. Throughout the challenge the teams had to reach ten checkpoints over the rough terrain, where they got their route cards stamped and activated their satellite tracker. Freddie Poore said of the experience: “It was fun; challenging and the atmosphere at the start and end were amazing.” Captain Tiger said: “I could have done another 20 miles, I would definitely do it again next year!”
