From installation art to vibrant oil paintings and prints, 13 aspiring artists at ACS Hillingdon displayed their artwork at an exhibition to showcase the results of their two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Art course. Parents, teachers and students were invited to the exhibition’s private viewing to celebrate the students’ achievements and hard work. Many of this year’s IB art students will be continuing their art studies at universities across the UK. The exhibiting students, aged 17 to 18, have spent the last two years building a portfolio which reflects their creative freedom. As part of the course, students complete open-ended assignments, designed to stimulate their individual artistic flair. Students also explored a variety of themes including structures, skin, states of mind and duality. The art exhibition was part of the students’ final exam, as photos of their artwork and workbook pages were submitted to IB moderators for assessment. Barbara Birchall, Head of Visual Arts at ACS Hillingdon, commented: “The Exhibition was a wonderful celebration and truly represents a culmination of the two years worth of hard work. “I hope the students have inspired others, there was a particular emphasis upon curatorial decision making and the exhibition provided an opportunity to think of the viewer’s experience - of the message the student wants to convey to the audience.”
