ACS Cobham students and staff recently visited Ypres, Belgium on a history trip studying the First World War. Ninety students explored the historic Western Front of the Ypres Salient battlefields, including one of the last surviving trenches, Hill 62. The students also toured the iconic Menin Gate Memorial, which commemorated soldiers from WWI. As part of their preparations for the trip, students researched an individual soldier listed on the Menin Gate. Other excursions included a visit to the Tyne Cot Military Cemetery and the 1917 Passchendaele Museum. Adam Powell, History Teacher at ACS Cobham commented: “The trip was a truly inspiring and historically educational experience. The students found the Menin Gate Memorial particularly moving, as the sheer size of it really conveyed the significance of this particular battle in WWI history.”
