Korean mastered, on to Swahili!

Pupils at Blue Coat are encouraged to develop a love of languages from an early age and in Pre-Prep many opt to join the after school language clubs. Modern Foreign Languages enter the curriculum at Year 3 when the children learn Spanish for two years, before moving to French in Years 5 and 6. It has to be said though, that the languages appearing in the national Junior Language Challenge each year are unlikely to be studied in the majority of British classrooms! It makes the challenge all the more exciting and this year’s ten semi-finalists have spent their summer getting to grips with Korean in preparation for the semi-final held at Fairfield Prep School earlier this week. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the early rounds and to our seven semi-finalists who were able to attend, including six-year-old Joel, who was our youngest participant to date and held his own against competitors many years his senior. Mrs Boothroyd and all the contestants were thrilled that Ritisha made the final cut and has ensured that once again The Blue Coat School Birmingham will be represented at the London final next month. We wish Ritisha every success as she takes up her next language challenge which is to master Swahili over the next three weeks!
