ACS Egham student, Ileeana Johnson, recently performed in The Association for Music in International Schools’ (AMIS) second annual Young Composers’ Competition. Ileeana’s piece was highly commended, one of only two pieces to gain this recognition. The competition attracted entries from AMIS member schools around the world, and is recognised as a highly challenging competition. Five adjudicators listen to the music, submitted by the students; an outright winner is selected and usually just a very few other pieces are given a highly commended award. Ileeana commented on her achievement: “I am delighted that my piece, “Under the Weather”, was highly commended. I wrote the lyrics and composed it for two voices, electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion and piano. I love playing the piece and I look forward to composing more pieces in the future.” Irina Walters, ACS Egham Music Coordinator, commented: “We are all extremely proud of Ileeana’s fantastic achievement. Ileeana’s piece is very impressive and it is to her great credit that her musical talent has been recognised in such an auspicious competition.”
