Hazlegrove remembers former pupils with ceramic poppies

Published Friday 11th of November 2016 02:14:06 PM

The Hazlegrove community gathered at the flagpole shortly before 11am this morning for our traditional Service of Remembrance led by Headmaster, Richard Fenwick. In preparation for the service, Pre-Prep have been busy making ceramic poppies again this year. These beautiful poppies, similar in style to those surrounding the Tower of London in 2014, were laid at the base of the flagpole whilst former pupils of King’s Bruton Junior School, or Hazlegrove, who lost their lives in active service, were remembered. The service started with a short address and a prayer by Mr Fenwick. Poems “For the Fallen” by Robert Laurence Binyon and “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae were then read by staff and Colonel Khashi Sharifi, who had kindly joined us for the occasion, read “The Soldier” by Rupert Brooke. The Last Post was sounded whilst the flag was lowered to half-mast and a minute’s silence was held before the Wake Up, both tunes ably played by pupils.
