Pupils at Kingham Hill School put their best paw forward as they dressed up as their favourite teddy bears to raise money and awareness for two worthy causes. Over £450 was donated by pupils and staff and will be split between two nominated charities, the Teddy Trust and Children in Need. Herefordshire based charity; Teddy Trust, founded by Ellie Targett is an organisation that collects teddy bears to send to vulnerable children across the world. Last year the trust sent over 20,000 bears to children in South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Syria. Pupils at Kingham Hill collected over five boxes of teddy bears to send to Kurdistan and were honoured to be able to meet and listen to Ellie Targett talk about the work the charity carries out. Speaking about her visit to Kingham Hill, Ellie said: “The enthusiasm of the pupils and staff for our charity The Teddy Trust was huge and we were shown so much kindness. So many people had contributed to make the day such a success, including the wonderful bakers who very kindly donated all the delicious cakes. A lot of effort and goodwill went into making us feel so welcome and we are extremely grateful to the Headmaster, staff and pupils of the school for helping make a suffering child's life a little better with the comfort of a teddy.” Alongside donating bears and having a fancy dress day, pupils held a bake sale, ‘Guess the name of the teddy’ and a treasure hunt to help raise funds for the trust and Children in Need, a UK based charity that supports child-related projects across the country. Andrew Savage, Kingham Hill School Chaplain reflected on the brilliant fundraising efforts: "It was a terrific day - teddies were everywhere, fancy dress, cakes, meals and treasure hunts. Far more importantly the pupils heard about the Teddy Trust. A teddy is not the answer to their biggest needs, but as we all know teddies give lots of comfort." Thank you to all our pupils and parents for their brilliant efforts on the day, including Huffkins Tearooms who donated some beautiful bespoke cakes for our cake sale.
