An inspiring trip to Naturesbase in Wales for the Hazlegrove Year 5 children

Hazlegrove Year 5 pupils have enjoyed a truly inspirational trip to Naturesbase in West Wales. Armed with plenty of warm clothes and wet-weather gear in case of need, they boarded the minibuses at Hazlegrove with eager anticipation at the prospect of a few days of scientific investigation, team building, shelter building and navigation in the Welsh countryside. Activities included gathering materials and making Andy Goldworthy inspired art sculptures, building fires and toasting marshmallows, den building and navigating their way along the five mile walk to the coastal town of Aberaeron where they built theme parks for crabs on the beach. All too soon, it was time for the children to head back to Hazlegrove but the last evening was spent making journey sticks about their experience and enjoying the most amazing pizzas they had made and cooked in the wood-fired oven. The children all had a great time on this trip which challenged and extended the skills they have been learning in their Outdoor Education lessons. Not only were all the activities hugely enjoyable, they had the added bonus of getting the children helping each other out and working together as part of a team.
