This festive season, the whole school community at ACS Cobham took to the stage to perform a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The famous Dickensian tale, which sees Ebenezer Scrooge discover the magic of the Christmas spirit, was a sell-out over the two performances, with more than 1,000 tickets sold to family, friends, students and staff. Featuring a cast and crew of 80 members of the extended school community, the Christmas musical delighted audiences with singing, dancing and acting, as well as some professional special effects. Creating an eerie and frosty backdrop on the stage of the 509-seat performing arts theatre, the production used over 70 litres of dry ice for the infamous ghostly scenes. With its range of roles for children, teenagers and adults, A Christmas Carol shone a spotlight on ACS Cobham’s performing talent, with students, teachers and Head Office staff making up the ensemble. Students musicians also made up the live orchestra. Head of Drama, Darryl Nel, who directed the musical, commented: “The cast and crew have spent hours rehearsing and preparing for the production and our hard work paid off. The performances were truly professional due to the phenomenal effort from all involved, from the tech and costume team to the on-stage cast and musicians. We hope audiences enjoyed the shows and felt some early Christmas magic!”
