ACS Egham International School recently hosted an evening of musical excellence, involving performances by Stephen Bryant, Leader of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and previous co-Leader of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Violinist Stephen was joined by colleagues, cellist Mark Sheridan, and singer and pianist Caroline Jaya-Ratnam. Mark has been part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra for 30 years, and has appeared as guest principal cello at many orchestras. Caroline read music at Cambridge University, and was later appointed the Geoffrey Parsons Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music. The trio performed in ACS Egham’s mansion assembly room, in front of an audience of over 50 students, parents and staff. The evening’s first performance was Beethoven’s Cello and Piano Sonata in C major, delivered by Mark and Caroline; the second performance was Greig’s Violin and Piano Sonata in G major performed by Stephen and Caroline, and finally the artists performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio together. Irina Walters, Music Coordinator at ACS Egham, commented: “The evening had a profound impact on our students, and they were inspired by the musicians’ talents and successes. It was very special to hear all three artists performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio together on their respective instruments; the piano, violin and cello. “The evening raised a fantastic £380 which Stephen Bryant kindly donated back to ACS Egham for our Steinway Piano fund.”
