Culford Matron turned Marathon Runner Q&A

Published Thursday 19th of January 2017 11:08:34 AM

We recently caught up with Cadogan House matron, Odette Tattersall, who will be running the 2017 London Marathon in aid of Combat Stress. We spoke to Odette about her bold choice to run the marathon. Why have you chosen to run the marathon? To prove to the pupils that anything is possible if you work hard. You can achieve your goals if you just put your mind to it! Also, I’m really keen on raising money for my chosen charity. Who are you running the marathon for, and why? I’m running for Combat Stress, which is a charity that has been active since 1919, helping out ex service personnel. This is a charity that is close to my heart and has helped my family greatly in the past. What are you looking forward to about the race? Finishing! What are you nervous about? Taking 6 hours to finish, my target time is anything under 5 hours. How have you prepared? I’ve been lucky enough to have the Culford estate as my training ground and have been running 4 times per week. To date, the furthest I have gone is 13 miles. How have the pupils reacted to hearing that you’re running the marathon? Most were shocked. Mr Herd has done it, but he was 20 years younger! When they got past the shock, they were all very excited and would all love to come and cheer me on in London. What is the connection between Combat Stress and Culford? With Culford having such a strong Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and a strong military pupil background, it is important to support the services. How can people show their support for you? I have a goal to raise a total of £1,800, so if anyone wants to sponsor me, please visit my JustGiving page (www.justgiving.com/odette-tattersall) and help support a fantastic cause. You can also give to Odette and her chosen charity, Combat Stress, by texting ODET73 followed by the amount (e.g. ODET7910) to 70070 as well as sponsoring through the JustGiving page. Also, to follow Odette on her marathon journey, like her Facebook page London Marathon for Combat Stress.
