Sibford School’s Equestrian Team rode to double victory in the grand final of the 2016/17 Bloxham School Eventer Challenge Series on Sunday (26 February). Maizey (age 9), Tom (9) and Jack (11) took first place in the team event … while Maizey was named top rider in the individual event. Hosted at Washbrook Farm, home to the prestigious Aston-le-Walls equestrian facility, riders in the Eventer Challenge have been accumulating points since the series began in October. Claire Ferley, PE teacher at Sibford School said: “This is the first time that the team has competed in the Eventer Challenge and they were up against some strong competition from other schools. They had an excellent start to the competition in the first round, back in October, when Maizey came in first and Jack second, and since then have been extremely consistent in their performance meaning they were in a strong position going in to the final.” Speaking about the grand final, Tom said: I was very nervous and wasn’t sure we’d do it. Jack and I were the first two to gain clear rounds, and it was then all down to Maizey. There was half a point between her and another rider but she beat her meaning she took the individual award and we got the team prize.” All three riders ended up in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard following the grand final with Maizey being placed in 1st place, Tom in 5th and Jack in 6th Jack, Tom and Maizey are pictured with their trophies
