Pupils Impress at their Spring Concert

Published Friday 5th of May 2017 10:10:55 AM

Culford Prep and Senior School combined to put on a feast of music in their Spring Concert at the end of term. The Senior Wind Band kicked off the evening with a dynamic performance of The Blues Brothers Revue. This was followed by an equally compelling performance of Mission Impossible by the Prep Orchestra. Chamber music abounded with Haydn from the Senior Piano Trio and Gershwin from the Senior Clarinet Quartet, whilst the Prep Flute Ensemble gave a beautiful account of The Skye Boat Song. The star of the show was undoubtedly Catherine Howells (L5) who performed the mesmerising slow movement of Elgar’s ‘Cello Concerto in recognition of her having gained her Dip ABRSM diploma. Catherine has been supported by the Amber Trust for many years, whose aim is to help blind and partially-sighted young musicians achieve their full potential. A retiring collection raised £164.00 for this charity. The musical diversity of the evening continued with the jazzing strings of Hot Club and the dulcet tones of the Senior Jazz Band. Prep Choir rounded off proceedings with three numbers including an exhilarating performance of the Status Quo classic Rocking All Over The World. Well done to all the performers and thank you to everyone who joined us on the evening.
