Canford rowers to represent GB

Canford School, Dorset is celebrating recent rowing success at National championships, with three pupils winning coveted places to represent GB.

At the National Schools� Regatta held at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham at the end of May, Canford gained two medals. In a strong final against St Joseph College (IRE), Monmouth School, Dulwich College, St George's College and Bedford School, the Canford Boys� First eight squad � Giles Lewis, Warren Muggleton, Herbie Hil-Reid, Jamie Robinson, Freddie Lickiss, Alex Wilding, Hamish Clifton, Harry Horner and Cox Kathryn Hanna, stroked by sixth former Harry Horner - was awarded a Bronze in the Child Beale Cup for Schools First Eights.

There was also success for the Canford Girls� Coxed Four in The Jim Mason Plate challenge. The squad � Verity McCann, Anastasia Chitty, Rosie Adamson, Lauren Fry and Cox Michelle Pinnington - was in a thrilling final against some very strong schools. Our Girls� Coxed Four performed brilliantly and rowed a well judged race to secure another Bronze medal.

Meanwhile at recent GB rowing trials, three pupils gained places to represent the country in forthcoming championships.

Anastasia Chitty and Alex Wilding have been selected for the World Junior Championships at Dorney Lake, Eton on 3rd-7th August. They will attend the training camp at Pangbourne before moving to Caversham and then to the Championships. Canford Head coach, Ian Dryden, will also be represented at the finals as he has been selected to coach the British Junior Men's coxed four.

Hamish Clifton will represent Great Britain in the eight at the Coup de la Jeunesse held this year in Ottesheim, Austria.
