Staff and scholars unite for recital

The music staff body joined forces with its music scholars to present an exciting and varied collaborative recital in the Johnson Hall to an audience of pupils and members of the public. The concert saw a huge variety of ensembles and solo performances, from the opening rendition of Deliebe’s The Flower Duet from Lower Sixth pupil Florence Lunnon and singing teacher Miss Eloise Routledge, to an incredibly challenging Lachenmann piano solo, and a guitar and percussion ensemble with Year 11’s Peter Chan. Alongside the realm of contemporary music, the audience also enjoyed more classical acts, including the newly formed Millfield Sextet. Comprising of three staff and three pupils, this group performed the fourth movement of Symphony Quintetto by Salomon and perfectly embodied what the Staff and Scholars’ concert is about. Overall, particular highlights from the concert included Language teacher Mr Mark Nash’s Brahms Intermezzo on piano, and an ensemble of two violins and piano with Five Pieces by Shostakovich. The evening was brought to a close with Upper Sixth pupil Isaac Hughes and Year 11 pupil Woody Taylor’s laid-back rendition of Night and Day by Cole Porter, accompanied by three music teachers.
