BARROW HILLS CHILDREN LAUNCH LENTEN FUNDRAISING APPEAL

Published Wednesday 21st of March 2018 09:31:08 AM

Local charities are set to benefit from Barrow Hills School’s annual fundraising event, the Lenten Appeal which runs from 12th March to 26th March 2018. Year 8 children at Barrow Hills drew up a shortlist of three charities and children throughout the school were invited to vote for their charity of choice. The Blue Cross, which helps sick, injured and homeless pets was selected as the main beneficiary for funds raised during the Appeal with smaller donations destined for Crisis, the charity for single homeless people and The Source, Aldershot which supports vulnerable people in Hampshire and Surrey. The entire school will be involved in helping to raise funds for the three charities and a number of initiatives are planned: Nursery - Year 1 (Nursery, Kindy, Reception, Year 1) will take part in age appropriate obstacle courses which will take place during PE lessons. Each child will complete as many laps as possible during their lesson. Junior Prep (Years 3 and 4) and Year 2 will take part in a fancy dress/mufti sponsored three-mile walk from partner school King Edward’s Witley to Barrow Hills School. Middle Prep (Years 5 and 6) will run a fundraising fair, where tickets can be purchased for 50p in exchange for a variety of donated prizes. Year 7 and 8 will embark on an ‘Upper Prep for Hire’ venture to raise money. The children will be asking staff, family members and close friends (with the relevant permission) for possible tasks they can undertake, from tidying out the garden shed, to dusting a room for a week, in return for a suggested minimum donation of £5.00. Commenting on the Lenten Appeal, Deputy Head Pastoral Paul Crisell says, “Supporting the local community and demonstrating compassion towards others is an essential strand to a child’s development. At Barrow Hills, our ethos is to create a supportive environment which enables the ‘education’ of the whole child. Our focus is not purely on academic achievements, we place equal measure on encouraging our children to grow into thoughtful, responsible members of society.”
