Pupils at Millfield have raised £5450 for Sport Relief 2018 by running a continuous 12-hour relay, joining a national campaign to complete one billion steps. The pupils also nearly quadrupled their target of completing one million steps, finishing the challenge after 3,937,876 steps (7444 laps). The charity run, which was organised predominantly by the Senior Prefects, began at 8am and continued for 12 hours, ending the day at 8pm. As well as raising money by sponsoring runners and purchasing T-shirts, the pupils also joined a national initiative to complete one billion steps for Sport Relief. With each boarding and day house entering their own team, an inter-house competition ran alongside the event, challenging the houses to complete the most laps in 12 hours. In a great show of commitment and spirit, the pupils and staff completed their goal of one million steps after only four hours. Although the initial challenge was complete, many pupils and staff continued to add to the national step count, with some runners completing the same distance as a half marathon for the charity. Winners of the inter-house challenge were Orchards house, who completed 1050 laps, followed by Abbey house in second with 790 laps and closely followed by Holmcroft house with 663 laps in third place.
