Children at Barrow Hills School will be honing their sporting skills this week when they take part in a Cricket Masterclass, run by professional cricketer Oliver ‘Ollie’ Pope, who plays for Surrey County Cricket Club. Ollie who has also played in the England Under-19s and in the Surrey Under 13s, 14s, 15s and 17s, will be teaching children in Years 7 and 8, how to up their game in England’s national sport. Jonjo Conway, Head of Design and Technology and PE and Games teacher, who arranged for Ollie to visit the school said, “We are very privileged to have such a high-profile player spend time with our children. Ollie’s success in the field, from such a young age is a perfect example of how discipline, drive and commitment can help our children achieve great things. Sport is a really important strand of the curriculum at Barrow Hills, not just in terms of promoting physical, but also emotional / mental well-being. Being involved in sports helps our children improve their ability to work as part of a team which represents a valuable life skill. Meeting Ollie and witnessing at first hand the significant benefits of sport and the rewards it can bring is a wonderful way of encouraging our children to participate, not just in cricket, but in all sports.”
