Bedford School Pupil Top Shot at Championships

Thirteen year old Bedford School Fourth pupil, Darcy McBride, finished in first place in the U14 Category of the National British Schools and Young Shots Championships 2018, with an incredibly impressive score of 30/32. As a result, Darcy, who was representing Bedford School in the competition, is now ranked as the number one shot in the UK for his age group. Darcy has been shooting for around two and a half years, and competitively for six months. Clay pigeon shooting has been a much-loved sport in Darcy’s family for many years and so it was no surprise that Darcy chose to take up the sport. However, no-one imagined that his shot would be quite so precise! Darcy is one of only a handful of young, talented shooters who train with Philip Thorrold, a professional shooting coach and one of the world’s top shooters. Darcy trains twice a week in term time and five times a week during the school holidays. Darcy told us, “The best thing about clay shooting is that a different technique is required for each target.” Darcy also explained that, as this discipline is not currently part an Olympic event, his ultimate goal is to win the Clay Shooting World Championships held in Dubai.
