Well-being Week at Bedford School

Published Monday 25th of June 2018 10:17:38 AM

There was calm and tranquillity in the air when pupils and staff at Bedford School participated in their first ever ‘Well-being Week’ from 11 to 15 June. With exams almost over for the year, it was an ideal time to try out something new, absorb some atmospheric activities and let the pressures of exams ease away. During the week, boys and staff enjoyed relaxing and listening to live music (courtesy of Mr Nicholl) in a ‘pop-up’ Well-being Café, situated in the beautiful surroundings of The Quarry Theatre’s bar area and walled garden. They munched showstopper cakes, created by the staff for a bake-off competition to raise funds for charity. Yoga, ultimate Frisbee and running were all also on the menu for the week, thanks to their positive impact on mental health and wellbeing. On the last day of the week, boys were encouraged to put away their mobile phones for the day and instead focus on the world around them. Lower Sixth Former Ify Emmanuel-Odiachi told us, “It's a common misconception that people, especially teenagers, tend not to care about their general mental and physical health. However, this is not the case. We simply tend to become overwhelmed with work and new responsibilities, especially during exam periods. This is why we aimed to use ‘Well-being Week’ as an opportunity for boys to take a step back and think about the impact of their actions on their general wellness.” Well-being and positivity of mind is always encouraged at Bedford School, however with daily stresses and relentlessly busy lives, ‘Well-being Week’ was a great way to allow everyone to take a step back and refocus their minds.
