Students from North Bridge House Senior Canonbury are celebrating excellent GCSE results today, with an impressive 27% Grade 9s – compared to 4.3% nationally. 67% of all grades achieved an A*/A or Grade 7 and above. The mixed-ability school is delighted with its second ever set of GCSE results. A remarkable 32% of students secured a Grade 9 in Maths. Four students also sat Further Maths GCSE – a qualification designed to stretch particularly high achieving Mathematicians and the only one which offers an A** award – and achieved 3 A** grades and an A*. The school’s impressive number of Grade 9s continued across science and languages with 62% of students achieving the top grade in Physics and 80% in Spanish. The languages department continues to build on last year’s GCSE success, celebrating 89% of grades at 7 or higher – the equivalent of an A or above. In addition, some students sat their GCSE qualifications early, including Year 10 Robin Long and Tom Hunt who achieved A*s in Chinese and Italian respectively. Star student, Oscar Brogden particularly excelled, gaining a complete set of Grade 9s and A*s. With nine Grade 9s, plus an A* in Music and an A** in Further Maths, Oscar is one of very few pupils to score so highly across the country. “I had hoped to do well but this really is the best possible outcome and it’s great being able to share it with my friends; we have all done really well.” said Oscar. Achieving six Grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, French, Geography, Physics and Spanish, Ayushi Sabharwal is likewise thrilled with her results. “I’m so happy to have got 9s in all the sciences and am looking forward to continuing with them at A-Level. I plan to study Medicine at university,” said Ayushi. North Bridge House Senior Canonbury is particularly pleased with an overall 94% of grades at 5 and above across its broad range of subjects – the majority of which are the new reformed, more exacting qualifications, taken at the end of KS4 and heavily if not completely determined by student performance on the day – and most impressively, a total 50% A*s or Grade 8 . Jonathan Taylor, Head of North Bridge House Canonbury and Collegiate Head of the North Bridge House group, said: “Our students and staff embraced the reformed, more demanding GCSEs, and we are absolutely delighted with the outcome. Three-quarters of the cohort have achieved the equivalent of 5 A*/A grades, with many students comfortably exceeding that benchmark. Proof, if ever it were needed, that academic selection is not the only means to achieving stellar results.” North Bridge House Senior Canonbury is still welcoming Year 12 applications for September and is this week dedicating its admissions line to families enquiring about A-level study at the Outstanding Sixth Form.
