Fundraising for Evie's Gift

Published Tuesday 11th of September 2018 03:25:30 PM

A Calne school is helping to keep alive the memory of former pupil Evie Clover who died in January 2018 aged 13, just weeks after having been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Evie’s parents Bryan and Patsy Clover have now set up Evie’s Gift to support children with life threatening conditions. Evie was a much-loved former pupil of St Margaret’s Preparatory School and the school is backing the charity and has named an outdoor classroom in her memory. Mr & Mrs Clover attended the official opening of ‘Evie’s Place’ on 25th May, which was funded by the St Margaret’s Parents’ Association. The classroom is already being used by teachers and children for a wide range of outdoor lessons. Additionally, four members of St Margaret’s staff and a parent also took part in the Jurassic 13 walk organised by Evie’s Gift and between them have raised more than £750. Staff members Sarah Giles, Jayne Miller, Jo Talbot and Anne Callahan, along with parent Sam Cork took on the walk along the cliff tops near Swanage. Mrs Giles, who taught Evie for her last two years at the school, said: ‘It was terribly sad and a real shock when Evie died. But taking part in the walk with her family and friends felt uplifting. It was good to be doing something worthwhile to support the charity.’ Around 40 people completed the walk and Mr and Mrs Clover expect it to raise more than £8,000. Their JustGiving page says: ‘When we were in Bristol Royal Children's Hospital we were lucky enough to find charity accommodation, but many slept on floors or in their cars. Evie's Gift provides free hotel accommodation nearby. A good night’s sleep means you can make informed, sensible decisions about your child's care.  Evie's Gift also gives people food and travel grants so that they can afford to stay with their children.’ Go to
