Success for Bedford School at the Bedford Small Boats Head

Published by Bedford Upper School on Thursday 15th of November 2018

It proved a wet and cold autumnal day for the Bedford Small Boats Head of the River on the Great Ouse on Sunday 14 October. The dismal conditions did not stop the crews of Bedford School from walking away with five category wins and the fastest time of the day by a margin of 22 seconds. It was an exciting day for the boys and they were raring to go, even though some of them had played in an exhausting rugby tournament against Dulwich the previous day. Despite this, they were able to dig deep and give their all. Bedford School’s new J14 crew have shown such gusto and enthusiasm for the sport that despite not having a race available for their age-group, they entered into a race for the age group above in order to gain race experience. Although they did not win, their efforts were commendable. Bedford School raced 15 boats in total, from J14 up to J18, and were delighted to come away with wins in: Open Quads (J18), Sculling (J18), Four (J18), Sculling (J17) and Open Two Sculls (J17). Sixth Formers Trent Abraham, Lennart Roese and Austin Roberts and Joshua Lyon made up the J18 Quad, who comfortably secured the fastest time of the day.
