Oakham School welcomes Dmitriy Ashton, the new IB MYP Coordinator

Friday 18 Jan 2019 This term we are delighted to welcome Dmitriy Ashton to Oakham, in an exciting new role for the School, as IB MYP Coordinator. Dmitriy joins Oakham with a wealth of experience, having taught for over 16 years in a variety of schools in the UK. His focus will be establishing and developing the implementation of the IB MYP for our students aged 11 to 13. “We are thrilled to welcome Dmitriy to Oakham,” says Deputy Head (Academic), David Harrow. “His role is an incredibly important one – as he will be overseeing the successful roll out of the IB MYP over the coming years. Working alongside teachers and staff, he will be developing and embedding this internationally recognised framework into Form 1 through to Form 3.” “I’m excited to be joining Oakham at this point in the IB MYP journey, having already worked at a number of other schools to implement a range of IB programmes of study,” says Dmitriy. “The IB MYP is an outstanding framework for preparing and empowering pupils – it develops a wide range of qualities, including independent thinking, resilience and creativity. Pupils learn through inquiry, rather than just acquiring knowledge. They are also encouraged to understand the relevance of what they are learning, both locally and globally, and enabled to use their learning to make things happen.” Over the coming months and years ahead Dmitriy will be working to co-ordinate and develop the holistic framework of the IB MYP – encouraging and enabling the Oakham community to make more engaging connections and links between subjects and departments, that will then, in turn, encourage and develop this approach to learning in our pupils.
