Canford School's boarding provision and pastoral care have been rated outstanding in all areas, with no recommendations for improvement, following a full inspection by Ofsted.

Three inspectors visited Canford at the end of June and assessed all the key national minimum standards following the Every Child Matters agenda. This covers the areas of Being Healthy, Staying Safe, Achieving and Enjoying, Making a Positive Contribution, Economic Wellbeing and Organisation.

Highlighted in the report was the strength of the expertise of both boarding staff and the senior management team. Boarders are safe, happy and live in an environment which is both nurturing and stimulating. Pupils are consulted regularly on all aspects of school life, freely express their views and are allowed to develop as individuals. Their relationship with staff was rated outstanding.

The behaviour of pupils was noted to be exemplary, with clear policies and procedures in place to reinforce the school's expectations of the standards required. The promotion of equality and diversity was also praised as central to the school's ethos, with respect for the individual within the school community.
