The Big Draw at St Benedicts

Published Tuesday 25th of October 2011 12:43:27 PM

The annual Big Draw event took over The Cloisters at St Benedicts School, Ealing on Tuesday 4th October. In the morning Form Three were busy building and decorating a complete town. There was purpose among the bustle and a huge buzz of enthusiasm as new buildings were constructed out of card and then decorated.

A new Ealing Abbey, a leisure centre with an open air swimming pool, an exclusive shopping centre with a red carpet entrance for 12 shops, including a pet shop, a fashion shop and a Tesco store these were just some of the buildings constructed. There was even a prison. As Sofia Romero-Waters explained, Were building a prisonwe want to keep the community safe for everyone and keep the bad people away!

In the afternoon children from Form Two in the Junior School added human figures to give a real-life look to the town. It looked wonderful!

Launched as a one-day event in 2000, The Big Draw is now an annual month-long festival of over one thousand events across the UK. Every October, museums, galleries, heritage sites, libraries, schools and parks join in inviting people of all ages to discover how drawing can connect them with their surroundings and the wider community.
