Places can now be booked for the Duke of York’s Royal Military School open morning for prospective students and parents to view the excellent educational and recreational facilities for boarding students aged 11 to 18. Open morning attendance for all year groups on Saturday 7 March, 2020 is by registration only via the website www.doyrms.com or calling 01304 245073. The event at the Dover school starts at 8.45am with tours hosted by students. Visitors will be able to see the impressive well-equipped classrooms, purpose-built sports facility with gym and climbing wall, drama studio, music suites, and specially-designed accommodation. There will also be sporting and ceremonial activities, ending in an informal buffet lunch. Set in 150 acres of Kent countryside, this unique school has long been a favourite with military families but is now open to all. Since 2010, it has attracted students from non-military families because of its traditional ethos and academic success. Alex Foreman, School Principal, said: “Students lead our tours as they are our best ambassadors and superb examples of how our supportive community, high educational standards and active lifestyle develop character and life skills alongside academic success.” For more information, visit www.doyrms.com. Ends Notes for editors The Duke of York’s Royal Military School was established in 1803 by the then Duke of York to care for the orphans of soldiers and moved, in 1909, to its present 150 acre site in the Kent countryside. As a boarding school, it offers a high quality continuity of education and pastoral care and is popular with parents serving in the Armed Forces. Since becoming an academy in 2010 and opening its doors to all students, the school has welcomed an increasing number of students from across Kent and Sussex in all year groups. Successful old Dukies of the School include: James Jones, former Bishop of Liverpool; Simon Daglish founder of the Walking with the Wounded Charity and Deputy Managing Director, Commercial, of ITV; and the late Maurice Colclough, Rugby Lions and England International Rugby Union player.
