Postcards of Hope

Published Tuesday 8th of December 2020 01:16:20 PM

There is no escaping the impact of COVID-19 this year and at BCS the children and staff have felt very close to the amazing work being carried out by the NHS. With many parents working at the local hospitals, The Blue Coat School was caring for and educating up to 100 key worker children a day during the first Lockdown.

With little sign of restrictions easing, the idea of sending ‘Postcards of Hope’ was born. The children and staff were keen to do something to reach out to the patients who are not able to receive visits from their loved ones and to staff who are working under difficult circumstances. Although it was not possible to send anything directly, working with fundraiser William Graves, the School shared messages electronically and each ward was able to print off the postcards of hope for patients and staff.

The children also raised money via a non-school uniform day and by designing and selling their own Christmas cards. Siblings Amber and Adam and Evie and Thomas, representing all the year groups in Pre-Prep and their teachers Miss O’Hanlon and Mrs Reiner were delighted to meet William Graves and present a cheque for £1,570 to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

“We have enjoyed a long relationship with The Blue Coat School and are so grateful for their continued support. The postcards are such a lovely idea and we are sure that both the children and staff on our wards will be delighted to receive them.” said William Graves, Regional Fundraiser.
