Boarders Trip to Lundy Island

Published Thursday 27th of May 2021 10:56:15 AM

Last Saturday a group of our boarders had a wonderful day out to Lundy Island. We travelled on MS Oldenburg to Lundy; the sun shone and although the two-hour boat ride was a bit bumpy we had a fabulous time exploring the island.

The beautiful, dramatic seascapes within and around Lundy when we arrived were captivating and it is no surprise that these shores have inspired artists and writers throughout time. Lundy, in the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is a protected and important ecosystem. It is known for its excellent walking and is a perfect place to see puffins and other special seabirds, and a destination for expert climbers, divers and letterbox enthusiasts!

When we arrived at Lundy Island we divided into two teams to try and find as many of the famous Lundy letterboxes as possible. The letterboxes are notoriously tricky to find, taking numerous visits to uncover all of them. So, I was very pleased that on our first visit, one team found three letterboxes, and the other found four AND a geocache too.

This truly was a fun adventure to tick off a bucket list.
