Debating Success for Malvern St James
Published by Malvern St James Girls' School on Wednesday 7th of December 2011
Sophie Coombes Roberts and Toria Jackson, both Year 13, performed superbly in the first round heats of the Cambridge Union Debating Compeition held in Oxford last week. They beat all the teams they were placed against, including a team from Cheltenham Ladies College. As a result, they will be competing in the Midlands regional final early next term. This is a particularly difficult competition as there is only a short amount of preparation time for each debate and the motions used tend to demand a significant amount of knowledge about global politics. Zahidah Zulkifly and Bethany Barnes also performed exceptionally well for a Year 12 team and show great promise for the future.Well done to all the girls who took part and good luck to Sophie and Toria for the next round.
