Canford Global Connections

We are delighted to announce that Canford has been successful in its application for the Global Schools Award Level 1.

The Global Schools Award (GSA) is designed to recognise good practice in the delivery of global learning in schools and is open to all schools in England who want to embed global learning and ‘global thinking’ into their school’s vision, culture and environment. The GSA was developed by a group of Development Education Centres in Yorkshire and is coordinated by Craven DEC on behalf of the Consortium of Development Educations Centres. School submissions are reviewed by an assessment panel which praised Canford’s approach to global learning as ‘clear, systematic and inclusive’ and commended the ‘comprehensive list of resources and implementation of student recommendations.’

The panel concluded: “It has been a pleasure to assess such a well organised portfolio.”

Future recommendations included the further development of global concepts in curriculum delivery and expansion of topical global themes within the school’s portfolio of resources.

Naomi Ings, Head of Global Connections at Canford, was very pleased to receive the news:

"We have been developing our new global programmes over the past year and I feel a great sense of pride that our work to date has been recognised through this award. However, this pride is focused not just on the events that we have run, impressive though the list is, but on the tidal wave of feeling sweeping through the school calling out injustice in all forms. It speaks volumes that in a year of closed borders, cancelled trips and remote lessons, Canfordians have endeavoured to prioritise connections, strengthen relationships and stand alongside local and geographically distant communities. Our Global Connections programme focuses on four pupil journeys - Partnership, Enterprise, Geopolitical and International - and our aim is to ensure that all pupils have countless opportunities to not only explore but also to shape the world beyond our school gates."
