Music filled the air on Friday 11th November as Luckley-Oakfield School in Wokingham officially opened its new state of the art music centre, The Simon Richmond Music Centre. The building is named after Mr Simon Richmond, Chair of Governors at the school before he sadly passed away in May 2008. Simon had a long association with Luckley-Oakfield School, serving on the Board of Governors for over 17 years, the last six as Chairman. He brought great wisdom, vision and business acumen to this role and under his leadership the school thrived. Simon's widow, Yvonne, daughter Melissa and sons Oliver and Luke attended the ceremony and spoke of how proud he would have been to see the centre in action.Yvonne said: '"Simon was devoted to Luckley and because of his own love of music he worked hard towards the school having this 'state of the art' music centre. It's wonderful to see his dream come true and I'm indebted to the school for naming the centre in his remembrance.
Following a service of dedication for guests and VIPs, the centre was formally opened with the traditional cutting of the ribbon by Baroness Berridge of the Vale of Catmose in the County of Rutland. After a music recital in the main performance hall, visitors were invited to explore the centre and its facilities.
The new centre comprises five acoustically perfect rehearsal/tuition rooms, a high-tech IT classroom, a recording studio and a performance hall.
