Cathedral School achieves highest inspection rating
Staff and pupils at Lichfield Cathedral School are delighted to have achieved the highest inspection rating from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) following the most recent inspection in January.

In terms of both pupils’ academic achievement and personal development, the ISI inspectors gave the school their highest rating of ‘excellent’. The report commends the school for how well it cares for pupils and the wide range of co-curricular activities from which students benefit.

Headteacher, Sue Hannam, said: “This judgement recognises the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment of students, staff, parents, governors and everyone associated with the Cathedral School. I am thrilled that the love we all have for the school shone through the inspection process and so proud to serve as Headteacher to such wonderful children and an extraordinary group of staff.”

Key findings of the ISI report included how the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent, and that pupils display excellent attitudes to learning, demonstrating an intrinsic motivation and determination to do well. Pupils were described as keen and active learners who engage readily in collaborative work.

Throughout the school, pupils achieve excellent standards in a wide range of co-curricular activities and pupils achieve highly in these areas partly because they have extremely strong independent and collaborative skills, but also because they are encouraged by the school to pursue their interests to the highest level.

Chair of Governors, Nina Dawes OBE, added: “It’s very satisfying to hear such praise for the high quality of our teaching and the real sense of community throughout the school. We are a school built on strong Christian values and it is rewarding to know that those values radiate through the attitudes, behaviours, actions and aspirations of our students. Looking to the future, we will take every opportunity to raise standards further and continue to offer our pupils the very best educational experience.”

Lichfield Cathedral School is an independent, co-educational day school for pupils aged from 21/2 to 18 years, and currently has 522 students on roll from Nursery to Sixth Form. Younger pupils are accommodated at the Junior School based in the rural setting of Longdon village, while the senior school is located in the beautiful surroundings of the medieval Cathedral Close. Students benefit from a broad curriculum that includes sport, music, art, drama, Forest School, LAMDA, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, residential trips, educational visits and a wealth of visiting experts.
