Canford rowers are celebrating excellent success at the Schools' Head of the River Race 2012 in London.

The First Eight boat was the fastest in its category over the Chiswick Putney 4.25mile course, the same used for the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race. The winning time of 17 minutes 27 seconds put Canford in the top 10 schools in the country at this stage of the season, faster than several Championship Eight crews.

There were strong performances from Canford across the board. The Girls' Quadruple Scull and Boys' J16s gained 3rd places, the Boys' J15s came 9th and the Girls' Eight 11th in their categories.

The Schools' Head of the River Race forms one third of the prestigious rowing 'treble' of the National Schools' Regatta and the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta. The Girls' Quads are aiming to take part in a new event at Henley this year, the Junior Girls' Quad invitation race.

Ian Dryden, Head Coach, commented:
'I am extremely proud of our performances in what is considered one of the major school rowing events. With GB representatives among our current senior crews and impressive performances by our juniors, I am excited for Canford rowing both this season and in the future.'
