Reed's wins at the British Schools' Championship in Switzerland

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 11th of February 2010

Reed's School, Surrey, is the first school ever to win all four team events in the British Schools' Championships held in Meiringen, Switzerland recently.

In the 'warm-up' team parallel slalom race the school's B team reached the semi-finals and the A team cruised through to the finals and beat Tonbridge for their first victory.

In near perfect weather conditions on the first day the Giant Slalom races began, Reed's ending the day with six good team times.

The next day began with a testing Slalom course on a steep icy slope in poor visibility, with some 40 competitors failing to finish the first run. Once again Roy Steudle blasted his way to gold with the fastest times of the day and Luke Steyn's

secure technique was rewarded with second place. The B team also found the second run more of a challenge as the weather closed in but still managed to secure some good times.

With the races over the team calculations began. The efforts of the B team were rewarded with first place in both the Children's competition and the Unregistered team competition. Charlie McWilliams also picked up the bronze medal in the combined Unregistered Childrens' category. The awesome A team confirmed their dominance in the event for the third year running by winning the team gold medals. They are the National Champions!

Congratulations to the team as Reed's becomes the first school to win all four team events! The full squad are shown above with their medals and trophies.
