Young Cellist is a Star in the making

Published by Malvern St James Girls' School on Thursday 5th of April 2012

Genevieve Phillips, one of the Music Scholars at Malvern St James, is returning to the cello section of the National Children's Orchestra as an Associate Member for the fourth time this year and is looking forward to the challenges of the forthcoming course in Weston-Super-Mare. The NCO will be working on Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, and modern works including the Dambuster's March.

She was recently awarded a distinction for ABRSM Grade 7 and would like to progress up to the National Youth Orchestra in a few years.

Genevieve, Year 8, says, 'I really like meeting new people and playing music with them. The conductor is excellent and he makes rehearsals a lot of fun. My dad plays viola, mum plays violin, clarinet and piano, and my little brother is grade seven on piano and grade five on violin, so we are quite a musical family! My ambition is to become a professional soloist as I love playing in concerts and performing to audiences'.

Lynne Lindner, Director of Performance, is delighted that Genevieve is so proactive towards fulfilling her ambitions, 'Genevieve is a capable and promising young musician and we are justifiably proud of her achievements. We look forward to her continuing development in future years.'
