St Swithun's was delighted to welcome the esteemed author and former BBC Correspondent, Martin Sixsmith to a talk entitled, 'Russia, History through Culture', on Wednesday 9th May. Mr Sixsmith entertained the audience with many personal anecdotes and explained how the political climate in Russia from the 13th Century to the present day was reflected in its culture. His knowledge of literature, music and art were astounding and the talk was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Kathryn Batten, Head of Politics at St Swithun's said 'Mr Sixsmith is a charming, inspirational, unassuming and knowledgeable man. I feel very privileged to have met him and found his talk fascinating.' The audience were delighted that Mr Sixsmith was willing to mingle at the end of the talk and kindly sign copies of his latest book, 'Russia: A 1,000- Year Chronicle of the Wild East.' The evening was a resounding success and was enjoyed by all who attended. St Swithun's are looking forward to welcoming Oliver Waghorn, former Special Adviser to the Ministry of Defence, to speak on 'Life as a Special Adviser' on the 11th October 2012.
